梵蒂冈城国是一个小型的国家实体，诞生于1929年圣座与意大利签订的国际条约——《拉特朗条约》。该条约的宗旨之一是确保天主教会最高领袖——教宗——的主权与完全自由。作为一个国家，它拥有一套独立于天主教会本身的法律体系，以规范国家的运作。本书从历史沿革切入，旨在帮助读者理解这个极为独特的国家存在的理由，及其法律体系所遵循的原则与规范；同时阐述其行政管理体制、治理模式，以及该国法院在民事、刑事、劳动、经济等领域具体适用的法规。

Lo Stato della Città del Vaticano è una piccola organizzazione statuale, sorta con un trattato internazionale del 1929 firmato, tra la Santa Sede e l’Italia, che ha come esclusiva finalità assicurare la autonomia e piena libertà della persona del Sommo Pontefice della chiesa cattolica. In quanto è organizzato come Stato, esso ha un proprio ordinamento giuridico, diverso da quello della Chiesa cattolica, che regola la vita dello Stato. Il presente volume presenta, a partire da una introduzione storica, necessaria per comprendere la ragion d’essere di questo peculiarissimo Stato, i principi e le norme che presiedono il suo sistema giuridico  (mescola di norme proprie e di rinvio alla legge italiana, principalmente), così come il regime di amministrazione e di governo, e le norme che deve applicare il tribunale di questo Stato sia in ambito civile, penale, lavorativo, economico, eccetera.

The Vatican City State is a small state organization, established by an international treaty signed in 1929 between the Holy See and Italy, whose sole purpose is to ensure the autonomy and full freedom of the Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church. As a state, it has its own legal system, distinct from that of the Catholic Church, which governs the life of the state. This volume presents, starting with a historical introduction—essential for understanding the raison d'être of this unique state—the principles and norms that govern its legal system (a mixture of its own norms and those based primarily on Italian law), as well as its administrative and governance regime, and the rules that the courts of this state must apply in civil, criminal, labor, economic, and other matters.
