Foreword

St John Paul II once wrote a Letter to Artists, where he said:

"In order to communicate the message entrusted to her by
Christ, the Church needs art. Art must make perceptible,
and as far as possible attractive, the world of the spirit,
of the invisible, of God. It must therefore translate into
meaningful terms that which is in itself ineffable. " (Letter to
Artists, 4 April 1999)

In the early Church, images were important for teaching
both catechumens and the faithful about the faith,
especially those who could not read. Paintings, sculptures,
stained-glass windows were employed to illustrate basic
ideas about the faith.

Art was also a way of helping the faithful remember the
things they believed in. It was also a way of helping them
immerse themselves into the scenes of the history of
salvation.

This series of illustrated books, which are a compilation
of infographics that have previously appeared in ‘O Clarim
Weekly’, are a modest contribution to the task of making the
world of the spirit visible.

This first volume presents the Creed in graphic form. The
Creed, as we know, tells us the truth about God, about the
world, and about ourselves.

The use of art in these pages also remind us that there is
a Beauty that is eternal and infinite. It is the Beauty that
our hearts are longing for: "One thing have I asked of the
LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of
the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the
LORD, and to inquire in his temple" (Psalm 27:4).
